Starting April 11th, the Large Lathe Department held a 5S Event. Over 3 days, a team cleaned, painted and organized the department. Many improvements were made:

• A storage rack was installed with labeled standardized bins for tooling.
• Lines applied to the floor to designate areas.
• Casters were added to all benches and carts to aid in cleaning and cell flexibility.
• Standard tools were purchased specifically for each machine, labeled and visibly placed for all machinists.
• Cleaning supplies were added: shop vacuums, brooms, shovels, spray bottles with cleaner and clean rag containers. By making cleaning supplies readily accessible, we are more likely to maintain it.
• White plastic was added to all work surfaces to brighten work area, ease cleanup of coolant and rust proofing, and keep paint from scratching off.
• Over 25% of us have participated over six 5S events.
