Herker Expands VTL Capabilities

Herker Industries recently expanded its equipment portfolio with the addition of a Doosan PUMA 550M vertical turning lathe (VTL) with the ability to machine piece parts up to 32” diameter. The VTL is equipped with c-axis table indexing, live tooling and through-the-spindle coolant. It features 50 horsepower with a two-speed gearbox and 2100 ft-lb of torque at 250 RPMs.
The VTL is primarily used for low to medium volume production of parts with short length-to-diameter ratios and its sturdy construction is ideally suited to handle internal or external grooves and threads. These types of high precision parts required for gears, pumps, mining and other heavy equipment industries can be extremely heavy; the design of the VTL allows large parts to easily be loaded down onto the chuck versus being maneuvered into position.
