CNC Mill Department Lead

SUMMARY

A front-line leader of our Milling Department will lead and coordinate activities of CNC Milling Machinists. Responsible for developing and improving the precision machining, manufacturing processes, and department personnel by providing leadership and accountability for all department matters.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustments of machines.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
  • Set-up machines as needed.
  • Checks on tooling for job.
  • Designs layouts for new jobs.
  • Develops manufacturing process.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces OSHA, EPA, DNR and other agency safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with quality procedures, plant safety procedures, OSHA and other government agency regulations.
  • Conducts plant safety inspections.
  • Carries out emergency evacuation and contingency plans for designated plant(s).
  • Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
  • Repairs machines when possible or submits work order to maintenance.
  • Operates machines as needed.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Estimates, requisitions, and inspects materials.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Performs activities of workers supervised.
  • Check time sheets for payroll.
  • Schedules work for machines and personnel per the direction from Production Control and monitors progress.
  • Quotes cycle times for new parts.
  • Trains new and existing personnel according to essential job duties and ISO procedures.
  • Records and approves vacations for department employees.
  • Audits spare parts for machines.
  • Checks on materials for production.
  • Delegates tasks for department personnel to complete.
  • Holds department meetings when needed.
  • Coordinates production with other departments and makes adjustments when problems arise.
  • Collaborates with Manager on employee evaluation on scheduled performance reviews.
  • Monitors labor entries.
